Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2008 - Day 2 Report Lamma CC lead the pack
Another glorious, and today uninterrupted, day of sunshine here at Karon Beach in Phuket where Day 2 of the
tournament saw Lamma CC of Hong Kong head the pack of 23 teams hunting for silverware at the ‘Sixes by the
Sea’ as Round One of the event was completed.
Lamma defeated newcomers to the tournament Calcutta Old Boys by 21 runs with both former Australian international
Trevor Chappell and Brad Tarr retiring for the Hong Kong outfit after posting a hefty total of 89 runs. In reply
Calcutta OB mustered 68 runs.
The Entertainers from New Zealand scored the highest total of the day when they blasted 93 runs against the
Wild Men of Borneo 1. Woddsy of the Wild Men was clearly the only member of the side unaffected by jungle juice
as he scored 35 not out. The team did well to reach 78 runs in reply but fell 15 runs short of the target.
Day Two saw the completion of the first round of the tournament with teams sorted into Cup, Plate, Bowl and Spoon Divisions.
Former champions the Corner Tigers from Pakistan performed well enough in their first two matches to feature
in the Cup competition again this year. Bahrain Camels and Etihad, new to the Phuket Sixes this year, also made the cut.
Six teams will compete for the Plate whichincludes both New Zealand sides. The doctors from the Delhi Medical
Association will also fight it out for Plate silverware.
The Welcome Reception party for the Phuket Sixes was held on Thursday night at the Green Man and the Bollywood
theme went down a treat with the teams. An amusing question and answer session was held on stage featuring Alan
Mullally and Trevor Chappell who revealed a few secrets and anecdotes from their careers inclusing a section on
best sledges which brought the house down.
Day 3 action gets underway tomorrow at 9.15am with teams battling for places in Sunday’s finals.
Entry for spectators is free and food and drinks are available at the ground.
