Lighthouse Phuket International Cricket Sixes
Goes Global!

ICC Development Awards 2005

The Lighthouse Phuket International Cricket Sixes 2005 wins Global ICC Development Award

On the final day of this year's event we received the amazing news that the 2005 Lighthouse Phuket International Cricket Sixes, co-organised by the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) and The Green Man, had won the ICC Development Program Global Award for Best Spirit of Cricket Initiative in 2005.

It was a closely fought contest, but eventually the global judging panel, consisting of such luminaries as Ehsan Mani (ICC President), Malcolm Gray (past ICC President), Dr Ali Bacher (ICC Cricket World Cup 2003 Executive Director) and Roger Knight (MCC Chief Executive and Secretary), chose in favour of Phuket. Read more details.

Ganesan Sundarammoorthy, the Asian Cricket Council’s Development Program Coordinator said, “This is what the game is all about. Playing for a cause is always a worthy initiative and it brings a vast number of people together in celebration of the game of cricket. They are worthy winners of the ICC Award. The Phuket Sixes ensures an enormous impetus for cricket in Phuket and hopefully this initiative will soon spread to other nations that are being introduced to the game.“

This follows hot on the heels of a regional award for ACST last year when their Hong Kong event, the Ichor Hong Kong Invitational Cricket Festival 2004, won the ICC’s Best Women’s Cricket Intitiative.

The Cricket Sixes Concept

Floodlit Twenty-20 match

A thrilling floodlit Twenty-20 charity match saw some top quality cricket

Cricket Sixes is a short form of the sport of cricket where six players make up each team rather than the traditional eleven. In some ways the idea is similar to Rugby Sevens in that each Cricket Sixes match is designed to incorporate all the most exciting aspects of the sport: high scores, fast action and exciting match finishes.

Now recognised worldwide, the Sixes format is a definite “crowd-pleaser” with each match lasting about 45 minutes.
