Wild Men From Borneo stun opposition at Phuket Cricket Sixes 2013

Wild Men From Borneo stun opposition at Phuket Cricket Sixes 2013

The tenth annual Phuket International Cricket Sixes is being played by eighteen teams at the fantastic Alan Cooke Ground (ACG) in Phuket, Thailand.

Its the first time the ICC award winning cricket sixes tournament has been played at the ground which boasts good sized boundaries, snooker table outfield and multi-storey clubhouse facilities.

On a glorious day basking in sunshine the Wildmen from Borneo, regular competitors at the Phuket Sixes and this year boasting two teams, found an extra gear when their Wildmen 2 team blitzed the opposition in their charge towards unexpected glory.

Martin Stirling, making his debut for the Wildmen, was the star of the show when, in his first ever over in sixes cricket he took wickets with his first two balls, finishing his over as a double wicket maiden and helping to restrict CricGlobal to a modest 60/2 off their five overs. Kumar from Cricglobal was the talisman of their innings with an unbeaten 33. The Wildmen went berserk and knocked off the required total to post their first victory of the day.

Teams from all around the world are competing at this tenth edition of the Phuket International Cricket Sixes, hailing from Hong Kong, Kuwait, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia and UK.

In their second match of the day the Wildmen were up against the Phuket Cricket Group Youth Development team, which features Boom a former Thai women's international cricketer. It was a tougher ask for the Wildmen in this match and it wne right down to the wire. Batting first the shotbox kings of Borneo posted 66 runs for 3 wickets, constantly pegged back by accurate bowling from the Thai players. The PCgG guys came close to grabbing victory with Pao reaching 27* and Boom 21* as the development side fell an agonizing 7 runs short of their target.

Play continues tomorrow at 11am.
