Wickets fall fast in day two of Kata Group International Cricket 7s

Media Release

11 April 2014

Three wickets fell in the first three overs at day two of the Asian Cricket Sixes Tour (ACST) 11th Annual Phuket International Cricket Week 2014 Kata Group International Cricket 7s.

The Rowdies were bowling tightly and managed to restrict the ACST Sponsors Team to 46 runs. Then the Rowdies from Qatar/Dubai easily made the runs with a solid batting display shown by Charn with 25 not out.

Young Phuket Juniors wicket-keeper Kung took the catch of the day in the second match, claiming Sedgwick International Cricket Club (SICCOS) Craig Lock for a Duck. Nathan Austin hit an impressive six before he was caught on the boundary by Phuket junior Lip. SICCOS won this match comfortably.

Wolfpack’s winning form returned following yesterday’s loss to the Galahs, with Matt Jenkins retiring after 11 balls on 32 runs. Next to the crease was Captain Will Badger who scored two impressive sixes from the first two balls he faced from ACST Sponsors bowler Gary Mathison and a third off Ijhar, to end at 25 not out.

The SICCOS good form continued later in the day with wicket-keeper Nathan Bowie taking a fantastic catch off leg-side dismissing Montagu Bay Sharks Brian Clifford for a Golden Duck. The SICCOS won the match by 14 runs.

The Galah Cricket Club topped off a fantastic day’s play by making a generous donation to the ACST’s Phuket Junior Cricket Development Fund, to be used for local activities and programs which benefit the development of junior cricket in Phuket.

Galah’s President Allan Boyd President said the Club was very proud to support the local children.

“Cricket can take you anywhere and our Club has been fortunate to play cricket in 32 countries,” Mr Boyd said.

“The Galah’s hope that these junior cricketers will get the same opportunity as us to travel and play the game.

“You don’t have to be rich, you just have to save,” Mr Boyd said.

In line with the Friendship through Cricket spirit, the SICCOS donated Australian Cricket Team shirts to the junior cricketers and Jordan “Moose” Ilsley donated his bat to Kung in recognition of his run score of 27 not out.
