The final day of the Kata Group International Cricket 7s 2012
15 April 2012

The final day of the Kata Group International 7’s was delayed due to a very wet pitch and outfield.  Play finally got underway 1 ½ hours late.
The game between the PCDC and Da Bang Boyz continued with the P.C.D.C boys were out played by the other team on a very wet and slippery deck. Duang was the top scorer for the P.C.D.C team and Sameer from the Da Bang Boyz with a fine total of 10. The game had final figures of P.C.D.C  3/30 and the Da Bang Boyz on 2/31.

The Da Bang Boyz backed up with their next game against the Rowdies. The Da Bang Boyz finished with a total of 6/26 with a history making 5 ducks for their over, once more adding to the fund raising efforts here in Phuket. The Rowdies answered with 0/29 with 3 overs to spare.
The stage was now set with the Cup play off between Chennai Super Sevens, NCL, The Rowdies and the Da Bang Boyz.  The Bowl Semi was to be Lesmurdie/Mazenod, The Mighty Spires, Singapore Slingers and the P.C.D.C.  The Shield Final will be between CBB’s and the Galahs.
The first game in the Qualifying Semi Final was played between Lesmurdie/Mazenod and the P.C.D.C Natives.  The Lesmurdie team set a total of 3/61, with Daniel top scoring with 17 followed by S.O’Sullivan with 12.  Whilst the P.C.D.C boys gave it their all and only losing 3 wickets, the day was not to be theirs. They posted 3/ 25. It was such a great feeling to watch these young boys play and see the improvement that they have made in their game over the last few years.

The Singapore Slingers and the Mighty Spires were next up. The Slingers came out firing with 2/43, a very respectable total on this pitch.  The Mighty Spires brought on Jonathon one of their big hitters who top scored for his team with 21 runs not out. He led his team to victory with a score of 1/45 with an overt to spare. The Slingers had great tournament and have introduced some of their younger players on their first tour. We will see the Slingers here later in the week at the 6’s.

The Bowl Finalists are of course Lesmurdie/Mazenod and The Mighty Spires

The Chennai Super Sevens and the Dabang Boyz came in to play the first Cup Semi Final. Chennai  set a cracking total of 1/66, Sundar having to retire on 31 and leading his team to victory.  The Da Bang Boyz could only answer with a total of 5/30. Putting the Da Bang Boyz out of contention and the Chennai Super Sevens the first team through to the Cup Final.

NCL and the Rowdies came out next to face the challenges of this pitch. NCL showed why they are sitting at the top of the table setting a total of 1/57 for the Rowdies to chase down.  Akram top scored with 23  and some great bowling figures from Jewel of 3/7 kept the Rowdies down to 6/30, putting themselves through to the Cup Final.

The Finals were finally here and the Lesmurdie/Mazenod boys took to the pitch with vigour hoping for a victory in the Bowl Final, they posted a decent 4/34, a couple of the boys putting their hands in their pockets to help with the fundraising efforts with 2 ducks from their innings. The Mighty Spires answered their score with 0/37 with 1 ½ overs to spare.  This of course gave us The Mighty Spires as the winners of the Bowl for the Sevens Tournament.

The on again off again Shield Final was finally contested between the Galahs and the CBB’s.  It proved to be one of the closest games of the competition with the Galahs needing 2 off the final ball to win the match. The CBB’S had set them 44 to win the game and the Galahs chased valiantly with Latts top scoring on 11.  The CBB’s were victorious in the end with some tight bowling from Aiden, Cat and Hopeless.  The youngest ever CBB player ending up holding the Shield high.

The much anticipated final was upon us at last. The NCL hit a total 3/39, leaving the Chennai Super Sevens 40 to win the match. Ram had some fabulous figures of 2/4 and Boom 1/6. Top scorer on the NCL side was Sujon with 12.  A very achievable goal, although never count your cricket matches till they are over. The Chennai Super Sevens responded to the NCL total with a smashing 1/40. Ranga once again top scoring for them on 16. Athar from NCL had the best figures for his team with 0/7.

The Chennai Super Sevens were the inaugural winners of the Kata Group Super 7’s tournament for 2012.

The ACST would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who made this tournament possible.
